Two important measures of the size of a number field K are its degree and its discriminant. In this talk I will discuss a third measure given by the covering radius of the ring of integers O_K of K. This is the minimal radius of a fundamental domain for O_K as a lattice inside the real vector space arising from the real and complex embeddings of K.
